The Man, Goose and Golden egg

*- Here is the man that’s suppose to resemble Albert Enstein and the robotic goose. I had several ideas for layouts after researching on the 1950s posters and pop art. Imitating or stylising your work after a different period can be really challenging. This time round, I guess I made the right choice by not sticking to my usual sketching style but the use of lines and shadows (occasionally shading), giving a neat overall effect and presentation of the image. Planning the layout took me 4 hours, whereas only 1 half hours, and a cup of ice-lemontea, was all I needed to execute the final graphic. I showed it to Valentino this evening, he was going to have to show it to another lecturer after I mailed him the soft copy. Pray hard that it gets approved and used as the front cover!! (>.<)~

Between you, me & the cat’s whiskers

Multimedia Essentials class is officially over! Boy, it’s a real treat as compared to last block. Firstly I enjoy working very hard for this, secondly I have tonnes of inspiration flooding my brains, thirdly I love what I am doing (that is, webdesign! also because that is what I have always been doing). <3 Even though it robbed me of my precious sleep and caused me a terrrrrible headache on submission day, 22 Feb 5pm. But I handed it to Ben at 6pm =P Hope I wouldn't get penalised for that (besides my lousy character rationale/introduction scribbled, because my head was way too fuzzy by that time). Met Ronald while searching for Ben, and he talked about this illustration project he wanted me to try out. Got the details from Valentino: illustration for the cover of the design for the aged (I guess so! if not what else can it be...) featuring an old Albert-Enstein-looking man beside a golden robotic goose to be in the 1950s style. OMG :S I have no idea whatsoever.......

Anyway. We all had to come up with an avatar website for MMEss final project, telling a story in 3 pages. * Flash required!

C L I C K to open it in a new window.

Ovie is a character possessing an exaggerated portrayal of some of my negative qualities and bad habits (of course not all are true) such as slouching, having little sleep (hence the heavy eyebags), sadistic, possessive, indulges in TV, books and the computer, eccentric, indecisive and very stubborn. As a crazy cat lover, her favourite cartoon is of course Garfield. Other than that, she roams arounds alone in an orange hoodie and jeans with fake cat ears. At times, she can be weird and apathetic, but when it comes to her favourite topics such as a particular film, singer or actor, she gets really excited. Ovie is easily influenced by what/who she likes; she dresses, talks, thinks and even acts like them. As she takes a stroll one day, Ovie trips over a cat who begins talking to her. She finds it’s abilities to mind read (Ovie doesn’t usually talk) so interesting that she brings it home. Towards the end, you’ll see that the cat actually complements her character. The emotive value I want to convey to the viewers is basically humour. I’ve used puns and jokes to accentuate her personality and the overall theme. ***

Like most of my classmates, it’s my first major attempt at Flash (apart from the little assignment earlier on in the Block) animation and it nearly killed me. The animation and comic’s script took the longest time to complete, and by the time I settled on the dialogues, I had several hours left till submission. And to illustrate out a whole page of comic. ZONK. There were the last minute hiccups as well. Because of time constrain, the script had no choice but to be cut short. I am going to explain the comic strip a little here so that you’d be able to figure out some of the stuff in there (some changes were made to the comic) :

1) The cat’s abilities to mind read and know Ovie’s name is similar to the shinigamis’ in “Death Note“.
2) “Good stuff” is what we call the liquid version of the sour candy, Warheads. Yvonne bought it from the bookshop, we removed the label and wrote “good stuff” on it and passed it to different people to try =P / is also what we hear very often in Ben’s class ;)
3) A spoof a spoof!

4) “TSK” is a favourite internet term between me, Grace and a few others. It reads: T-S-K.
5) The quote “C’est la vie” is stolen from Grace’s project. Where she names her character (c’est l)A vie, I named mine O vie. By the way, they’re cousins =D Hehe.
6) Ovie kicks the bucket. You get the pun.
7) In her world, only Mondays exist. Why Monday? Because Garfield hates Mondays, too.
8) The movie Ovie is watching is “Ghost Tunnel” (starring Oguri Shun!!! and Erika Sawajiri). Adeline and I saw it at the cinema some weeks ago…. :S
9) Here’s one for you Erfa, lol. Maybe I’ve watched too many times of “Hana Yori Dango“, I made Ovie as ridiculous as Domyoji Tsukasa (hohoho, MatsuJun) when she says “Shut up, ugly(bu su!)” and then laughs it off. =_=”"
10) In Ben’s class, (and besides Grace) he always speaks about being hungry. “I AM HUNGRY”, as always.
11) Ooh a lolly in a teacup! Now who eLse have you seen doing this?
12) Nobuta power, kon! It’s the same as the handsign they use in “Kisarazu Cat’s Eye” but here’s Yamapi as Akira in “Nobuta wo Produce

13) If you have followed “Battle Royale” right till the very last scene where Kawada lays dying, you’ll find the title of the comic very familiar.

So there! There’s actually much more to the initial script, but too bad I can’t have it all. But it’s alright, I see this as a potential comic series ^^ Credits to Pi’s LJ community (I think) and somewhere else for the .gif and BR screenshots.

The classic way of saying…

Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies.”
A black and white picture of Leslie from his 1988 photobook. How very endearing and timeless he always is. <3

Cinema Square Vol.10

Outing with Adeline again on Saturday. We went to NUS for her to do research and photocopy books then lunched at Cine’s pastamania again! They changed most of the movie posters and even took away the Taiyou no Uta one stretched out on the floor. Letters from Iwo Jima was still there, and Nino still has that kiddish look no matter what. Every time we visit town we kind of always go to the same places – kino, cine, hmv, taka etc. But it’s damn fun at Kino that afternoon when we lingered in the Japanese books section and tried to read French by reading katakana… got tongue tied whilst trying. I figured katakana’s pretty useful in these areas, heh. And somehow I dreamt of visiting Kino, browsing the Jap photobooks section and finding Tsuka’s(Taki183) and Shun’s(Oguri Note) photobooks gone. WAHHH, I’d tucked them together at one corner on the last visit there. Haha. At the magazine section, I caught sight of a mag with MatsuJun on the coverpage, which turns out to be the one I decided to purchase. $19 frigging dollars :S But chotto matte while I sidetrack for a bit: Adeline was telling me about this Jap magazine an.an for women which features a male celebrity annually in some very revealing photoshoot (and everything’s about sex); Hiroki Narimiya was featured last year… next in line is MATSUJUN! *OMG* My jaw literally DROPPED when the pics loaded. OMG MatsuJun quite naked in that kind of photoshoot with that model? Sexy! But after a while I found it rather disturbing. It’s way too much to handle, haha. Get your clothes back on please, Domyoji Tsukasa.

*Oh no, I wouldn’t want innocent Yamapi to be featured in something like this :S gasps* SEE??

Ok, collecting magazines aren’t usually what I do but for once I just had to get the Cinema Square ’07 Spring magazine. I kind of debated with myself over whether to buy or not, but since we previewed the magazine at the counter there were the <3 big big pictures <3 of ttthhhheeeemmm and they span for quite a number of pages as compared to some other magazines. Very worth the money! $19! Esther is currently very happy and ogling at the photos..... Some pretty scans (of course, some edited) for the day! :-

You know why I said it was worth the money? There’s my MatsuJun, ANDO MASANOBU and Tsukamoto Takashi <3 <3 <3 Matsuyama Ken'ich (L in Deathnote) was featured, but I reckon I am not so much of a MatsuKen fan as much as L and the rest above ^^

Jun’s scarf is really pretty! Various Jun pics:

Oh, the movie “Boku wa imoto ni koi wo suru” that Jun’s being interviewed on in this mag. The theme’s probably taboo again — love between a brother and sister. Opens 17 Febuary in Japan. www.bokuimo-themovie.com

Looking at the cast list, Ando Masanobu should be a minor character, but he gets two movie screenshots here! Hmmm, bald and still looking great ^^ Do you spot Hiroki too? (bottom left) LOL, I think he’s got an egg-y face here. “Sakuran” opens 24 February. www.sakuran-themovie.com

Here’s my Ando, who looks wayyyy menacing as though he’s Kiriyama in Battle Royale (2000).

Who says a deranged machine gun killer has to be cold? Ando’s SOOOO HOT! Refined facial features, big pretty eyes and a very sexy mouth. *drools* Japan version of Johnny Depp. Indeed X3 Can you tell he’s 32 this year? =D

Lastly, we have Tsuka! Tsuka Tsuka Tsuka (hey it’s “like” in teochew, LOL). My favourite hairstyle of his would be Kouji in Taiyou no Uta, the school dropout in Gokusen, the Casanova in Stand up!, silly ANI in Kisarazu Cat’s Eye (…you know, all his blondie hair days. And I might as well list his filmography here.) www.enma.tv

b(l)ast-ard

ATTENTION PLEASE! Have you all heard that JUSTIN WAS ADMITTED INTO SGH YESTERDAY BECAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT?? HE DIDN’T TURN UP FOR CLASS IN THE EVENING BECAUSE APPARENTLY WHEN HE WAS CROSSING THE ROAD THE TAXI DRIVER DIDN’T SEE HIM. I ONLY KNOW THE WARD HE’S IN, SO LET’S ALL VISIT HIM AFTER SCHOOL TOMORROW ALRIGHT? Alright. It’s gonna be alright. Poor boy. Poor me. Mr Unbelievable Joshua Tan woke me up from my nap (I could have killed him for this) with a call regarding this matter and unbelievably, this was a prank. “No lah, bluff you one.” Oh, happy happy birthday Esther. (I am going to kill him for sure.)
