New bag; love at first sight. Carlo Rino.

Do you know that Appletastic could be rearranged into Plastic Tape? Or Capital Pest? :) Anagram idea started by Grace. Ooh she’s such an evangelical doer. Being jobless is not necessarily as bad as it seems because we get all the time we want. These days we girls love to hang out at T1 (nope, not the airport) and Ion, spending time and talking about just everything. On weekends, which we look forward to very much, the whole group of us would catch up over meals and gather for maybe a movie or two. If it remains this way for the next two years till after the boys’ NS, save the girls being jobless part, I’ll be more than glad.

3 ongoing design projects. Counting down. I really really want to go on a holiday..

Crowbar Awards 2009

The highly anticipated event was held this evening at Shangri-la Hotel! Crowbars was a blast; I had a great time viewing the exhibited works of other designers and through the projections during the award ceremony. This must be only the tip of the iceberg of how competitive the design industry actually is. The overall standard was sky-high too.

At the end of the ceremony when the rankings came up, TP didn’t do as well as last year with 1 Gold, 6 Silvers, 6 Bronze and 9 Finalists. It’s probably because a hell lot of people never submitted their works.. where were all the VSC-ers?? I think they would have stood a good chance against all the others in the Design category.

In retrospect, I honestly think my project as compared to many others was not diverse nor did it have an excellent concept, just simply too linear. It was like, hey, that’s about all I could ever produce. But I thank God that I was awarded two Crowbars; Gold for Interactive and Silver for Illustration, both for the same project REALise. For this project alone, I have had a lot of good opportunities and it makes me wonder how often actually will these come by in future? Hardly. I’ve been working on REALise for the longest time and I’m so glad to be seeing the outcome now.

This year the certificates are printed on big, thick and shiny paper! 8D And by the way, their ballroom was too cold for my liking tough. Gahh.

Highlight of the award ceremony: Lim Si Ping from Lasalle bagged a handful of awards for her project “I M PERFECT”, winning the Best of Interactive, Best of Design (two categories; truly a record breaker!) and also Best of Show. ZOMG!

With this, Crowbars marks the end of my student life; I no longer qualify next year.. The road ahead (aka working life, haha) is too vague, so I’m just hoping for a chance to study again when I find work too tiring, preferably in Japan XD somewhere overseas.

Like I said, it all depends on that Dream Chance ;D

Well, by the end of the day I had some goodies and snacks from the games we played, two balloon yo-yos (omg I never knew they were so fun to play with!) and a small canvas tote bag I bought at a stall.

初夏祭りは最高だった〜☆(笑)
来年の祭りに行くのがもう決めていました。
誰か一緒に行きたいんですか。
(そしてきものを着たい!!!^_^*)
I WANT TO WEAR A KIMONO TO THE MATSURI NEXT YEAR!
WHO’S COMING WITH ME?
絶対楽しみにしますね。

Trippin’

The whole bunch of us from IMD have been going out very often lately; birthday celebrations, airport-ing, catching movies, having meals together, and of course TRIPPING. 2009 might just be the year we hang out the most often outside of school :) Never had I expected that, after our Bintan trip last month we would be going on yet ANOTHER trip to the beach so soon with all 9 of the Bintan people including myself. The destination this time round will be Tioman, mainly because the guys are going scuba diving (they’ll be going for the advanced open water course after which they will be awarded a certificate), while the girls will snorkel. Booked today, thanks to Justin!

I also wanted to learn diving, but it’s not as though I would state that without any fears. Diving is even more dangerous than being in a plane, or so my dad claimed, and I must agree that any emergency situations that might happen deep under water are indisputably harder to handle alone. In the case of accidental choking on water, whether you surface quickly gasping for air or risk drowning for the fear of the nitrogen in your blood, either way you would have to face consequences. The more I imagine, the more it makes my head spin.. So right now I’m convinced by my dad’s decision of not allowing me to scuba dive. Anyway, I can’t swim for nuts so I won’t want to be the only idiot causing trouble during the trip.

Snorkeling with the rest of the girls sounds like a very good idea after all. I’m thinking of underwater photography :D Here’s a recap of the wonderful Bintan trip from 23rd to 25th June at Angsoka Villa Resort with the most awesome group… ^_^

This, feels more like blogging. :)
Tioman, 17-19 August! Beyond that, maybe even Hong Kong or Taiwan hehe.

standstill

A month went by without any updates here, apologies to those who happened to drop by once in a while to find nothing new. My life as a whole is still, so far, the same; stagnant. I would simply like to say that the I spent the last couple of weeks slowing down my pace, enjoying the company whenever possible of the lovely group of friends, dealing with the Children’s Society project which is still in discussion and also bumming around. For the next half of the year, I was thinking that I should spend it seeking new directions.

Today morning I wove in and out of sleep, and then woke up remembering the long dream that I had. I slept some more in the evening. Ade told me that depressed people sleep a lot, mostly because of escapism, how they tend to avoid waking up to reality by sleeping heavily for long hours. Has this characteristic become a part of me? This could be one of the few things that I can admit to you about. But who can be totally honest to oneself, more so to the closest people around you? It’s easy to drift along, but when it comes to the core, I find it impossible to convey what I truly feel and think.

So this is what it means when they say, “I know you, but I don’t know you.. actually.”

Okay, enough of rambling. Well, after living in a huge mess for who knows how long, I finally hate it enough to clean up my room, starting from the clothes and bags all over the bed and the floor. And then just about everything else. When my room returned to its rare, wonderfully neat state (right =_= not even!), I was particularly irked by the ugly tissue box that sat in between my speakers on the shelf above my work table. At the spur of the moment, I created a tissue box cover using a piece of scrapbooking card with floral design, glittery paper for the sides and a piece of string to hold the left side together.

Because the back of the tissue box isn’t entirely covered (the paper wasn’t big enough), the box itself can always be replaced once the string is untied and the side unfolded. The overlapping flaps of paper on one side of it are held together by the string. From the front it looks just like a gift wrapped box of tissue, that’s all :)

Written on the paper is a quote which I really really like, taken from the French novel Le Petit Prince:

The essential things in life are seen not with the eyes, but with the heart.
「心で見ないと、なにも見えない。
いちばん大事なことは、目に見えない。」

For example, love.
