Crowbar Awards 2009

The highly anticipated event was held this evening at Shangri-la Hotel! Crowbars was a blast; I had a great time viewing the exhibited works of other designers and through the projections during the award ceremony. This must be only the tip of the iceberg of how competitive the design industry actually is. The overall standard was sky-high too.

At the end of the ceremony when the rankings came up, TP didn’t do as well as last year with 1 Gold, 6 Silvers, 6 Bronze and 9 Finalists. It’s probably because a hell lot of people never submitted their works.. where were all the VSC-ers?? I think they would have stood a good chance against all the others in the Design category.

In retrospect, I honestly think my project as compared to many others was not diverse nor did it have an excellent concept, just simply too linear. It was like, hey, that’s about all I could ever produce. But I thank God that I was awarded two Crowbars; Gold for Interactive and Silver for Illustration, both for the same project REALise. For this project alone, I have had a lot of good opportunities and it makes me wonder how often actually will these come by in future? Hardly. I’ve been working on REALise for the longest time and I’m so glad to be seeing the outcome now.

This year the certificates are printed on big, thick and shiny paper! 8D And by the way, their ballroom was too cold for my liking tough. Gahh.

Highlight of the award ceremony: Lim Si Ping from Lasalle bagged a handful of awards for her project “I M PERFECT”, winning the Best of Interactive, Best of Design (two categories; truly a record breaker!) and also Best of Show. ZOMG!

With this, Crowbars marks the end of my student life; I no longer qualify next year.. The road ahead (aka working life, haha) is too vague, so I’m just hoping for a chance to study again when I find work too tiring, preferably in Japan XD somewhere overseas.

Like I said, it all depends on that Dream Chance ;D
「ドリーーーームチャンス!」を待っているね!

good times..

A couple of things to be happy about this month :3

◇ I’ve got two design entries shortlisted for Crowbar Awards 2009! Final results are out on 28 August during the award ceremony.

◇ Children’s Soc confirmed the website project and some of my FYP illustrations will also be showcased during their upcoming roadshow from 29-30 August! It’s like a dream REALised ;) Reproducing the illustrations in high-res (say 2m by 2m) format had me working really hard for the whole of this week, so much so I think the wacom pen would grow out of my hand anytime. Well, that was incidentally how I discovered the size limit for any Photoshop file is 2GB.

◇ Though pricey, I subscribed for Japanese TV channels on the web = <3 Quality is indeed better than KeyHoleTV and it hardly lags (unless I use wireless internet that is). Haha.

◇ The waterproof camera case WP-300 I bought on E-Bay came in the mail a few days ago; for use on the beach, for swimming and snorkeling.

◇ I am done packing for the Tioman trip 6 hours later.. Beautiful beach and waters – here we go! ”いま行くぜ、ベイビ!〜♥” (sounds familiar? LOL.)

crowbars.

1.5, labour day? Can I tell you I was working on the pixel animation, graphics and html pages for the designing for mobile module? 1.5, yet I’m revisiting Project 3 for the nth time. For Crowbars 2008, Interactive. Not too hopeful at all. Go here. Billy Lee? The first child prodigy in advertising :S that’s scary.

Overseas internship placements available in countries such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and so on. CDI project, I didn’t reject because when I think of spending a couple of months abroad (minus minus minus the $) and actually working as a student designer, the idea sounds wow, too undescribable. That’s right, I’ll try for it. Gonna be extremely busy in a few months’, maybe weeks’, time, and even if I can’t get to go overseas, I still get to build up my portfolio with the CDI project.

*pauses*

What?

Ok. Right. I’m bluffing. I really hate doing corporate designs. Anyhow, Crowbars first.

Back to work.
